Why would I not want to walk on a frozen ocean? Why would I not want to walk down a dirt road in third world country? Why would I not want to experience? To explore? Why would I not want to live?!

Cooking breakfast in the wild

Nothing is better than food cooked in the wild. It creates the perfect combination of smoky flavor and natural taste that can’t be matched at home. One meal that is often skipped in the wild is breakfast. Too many people think breakfast in the outdoors must consist of pop tarts and other non-nutritious meals. But Read more

ABOUT KEVIN FLINT

Kevin Flint is a Knoxville, Tenn. based outdoor adventurer, content creator, traveler, gear tester, and marketing communications specialist. He spends time exploring remote and wild lands and the destinations along the way. During his explorations, he tests gear and gathers professional quality content for brands, destinations, and media companies. He also tells honest stories and shares the beautiful things he experiences in the process through this website, media outlets, and his social media channels.

His love for the outdoors began at an early age. Before he was 2-weeks-old, his father had him out on the family ski boat on Cherokee Lake in Grainger County, Tenn. That experience, he says, put East Tennessee water in his veins. Since birth, there has not been many times in his life he has been without a boat. That is just a part of who he is. His parents had a home so close to the lake, the water would reach slightly under the front porch at full-pool. He spend early childhood summer mornings fishing off the porch and watching the squirrels play in the white oaks that surrounded the porch. Paddling water became second nature to him. As he grew, his love for the outdoors intensified. He typically explored higher and further than others wanted to go. Getting up at 4:30 in the morning to hike up a steep mountain to explore or hunt was the best part of his year.

During high school, friends introduced him to rock climbing and repelling on a small face in Virginia. That was something that changed him forever. He never stopped wanting to be on the rocks. When not playing high school football, he stayed in the mountains, rivers, and lakes around Tennessee. During college, be bought a set of skis and a season pass to Cataloochee Ski Area in North Carolina and learned to ski. Later, that season pass turned into multiple season passes to Colorado ski resorts. He learned to pilot a hang glider in Chattanooga.

In 2005, Kevin was hired as a young outdoor writer for “Visiting The Smokies” magazine and its sister company newspaper. During that time, he honed his craft at telling a compelling story, research, and fact checking. The magazine covered the areas that surround the Smoky Mountains in East Tennessee and Western North Carolina. Kevin also covered shifts for the news director at 92.9 WNPC radio where he found and reported area news for a 15-minute broadcast. He was also a radio DJ at the station under the name “Cowboy Kevin”.

In 2008, Kevin was hired as Rafting In The Smokies’ (RITS) Outpost Manager on the Pigeon River in Hartford, Tenn and later managed the zipline and high ropes course operation for the company. RITS is one of the highest volume rafting companies in the country. Working at RITS at the edge of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Cherokee National Forest, and Pisgah National Forest gave Kevin unprecedented access to paddling, hiking, backpacking, camping, skiing, and everything outside.

Even when working as a writer and manager, Kevin also worked on the side developing websites and marketing for companies and events. In 2012, he accepted a job as the digital team leader of a marketing communications company in Knoxville. He led the web development and digital marketing projects for a long list of national clients, including fortune 500 brands. In 2014, he formed his own marketing communications company in Knoxville giving him more freedom to travel, explore the world, and write about adventures.

Living in Knoxville, the gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains, gives him the opportunity to play everyday in the land where mountains reign and rivers roar. The city is commerce meets the outdoors. It is a perfect fit for the self professed half CEO and half gypsy. He can work a full-day marketing a brand and have time in the evening to bike the South Loop in Knoxville’s Urban Wilderness or a greenway, rock climb in nearby Obed, wakeboard on Fort Loudoun Lake/Tennessee River, hike House Mountain, or find numerous rivers, lakes, trails, and parks in all directions. He has deep southern roots, but has a love for all things outdoors, the American West, and foreign lands. He never stops loving life. He never stops living. He never stops exploring.
